How to choose the right lubricant for open gear

According to several-year experience, Hongxing machine has been successfully developed new type ball mill and jaw crusher, in terms of some common sense in operating process, Hongxing experts give following advice in choosing lubricant for open gear:

Different operational phase of a large open gear lubricant has completely different requirements: 

(1) The surface of new gear or turned face gear is rough and has low contact proportion, so it is inevitable to appear slight abrasion and fatigue cracks. Then we require to prevent minor abrasions sustainably develop to pitting and severe abrasions and prevent fatigue cracks to pitting corrosion and spalling. We must eliminate the continuous scratches and cracks with special run-in lubricant in polishing stage, and quickly promote contact ratio, reduce the probability of scratches and cracks.

(2) The polishing stage will to be end if tooth surfaces have sufficient contact proportion, when the tooth surface is with the basic conditions to form a good lubricating oil film. To create a good lubrication conditions, it is required a suitable lubricant to reduce gear wear, prevent the gear damage like abrasion, glue, plastic deformation or pitting, extend gear life and avoid causing the continued development of existing injury caused by improper lubrication. In order to prevent the emergence of the aforementioned various types of damage, it is required to select the lubricant with high viscosity, strong carrying capacity, good adhesion properties with extreme pressure additives, good wear resistance and adapt- to-higher tooth surface temperature to achieve the following purposes: 

a) Can form a sufficient thickness of oil film between meshing tooth surfaces; 

b) Can bear a higher gear operating temperature; 

c) Reduce the friction coefficient; 

d) Can effectively absorb the impact force when the gear meshing and lower the impact loads that gear withstands; 

e) Can effectively reduce the wear rate of the gear and extend its service life; 

f) Can make the load evenly distribute and reduce the contact pressure; 

g) Can effectively prevent new gear damage or mitigate the expansion of the existing damage.
